The Department of Public Works maintains the Town’s infrastructure and provides citizens with a safe, attractive, and healthy town in which to live and work.  Public works staff members ensure that town residents have reliable sewer service, trash collection, functioning fire hydrants, and more.

The public works department maintains approximately:

• 65 miles of roadways within the Town’s corporate boundary
• 73 miles of public sidewalks
• 131 miles of water distribution piping
• 84 miles of sanitary sewer mains
• 2,000 water valves
• 850 fire hydrants
• 2,000 manholes 

Waste Collection - Heat Advisory Days

When the Town of Vienna is under a heat advisory, the Town will adjust the solid waste collection schedule to mitigate potential heat-related health risks to Public Works crews.  When extreme heat is in the forecast, residents are asked to have items at the curb by 5 a.m. as collection will begin at 6 a.m.  Thank you for your cooperation!

Waste Collection Holiday Schedule

Collection will NOT be scheduled for Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day or New Year's Day.  When a regular trash collection day is missed because of an observed holiday or mechanical difficulties, collection of trash and recycling only will be rescheduled for the next collection day for that week.  Brush, yard waste and bulk collection will resume the next week on the regularly scheduled day.  Rescheduling information will be listed in the Town Calendar and on our website at Town Calendar | Town of Vienna, VA (viennava.gov)

2024 Public Works Day

Public Works Day is held in May each year at the Northside Property Yard.  Tour the facility to get an up-close look at the heavy machinery and meet the employees.  Designed for all ages, light refreshments will be served.
