Lead Free Vienna
In 2024, Town of Vienna Public Works crews completed an inventory of all water service lines within the Town’s system. This initiative was prompted by changes the Environmental Protection Agency published in 2021 to the Lead and Copper Rule. These changes require water systems to verify the material of all service lines, notify customers of lead lines and certain galvanized lines, and create a program to replace those lines. The Town of Vienna found no lead or galvanized lines. The vast majority of all service lines, on both the public and private sides, were copper, with a small percentage of polyethylene pipe on homeowner property.

General information
The Town of Vienna provides water service to nearly 5,600 residential and commercial customers, about one-third of whom are located outside of Town limits. The Town distributes treated surface water from the Potomac River and Occoquan Reservoir, which is supplied through the Fairfax County Water Authority and Army Corps of Engineers. Find information about Vienna's drinking water quality in the Annual Water Quality Report.
In the event that water service must be interrupted due to maintenance or repairs, residents will be notified, if possible, via a door hanger before work begins. Once water service is restored, it is recommended that homes run cold water for a few minutes from a bathtub or other fixture without an aerator. This will help ensure that water is clear and that any air is released from water lines.
Through its Capital Improvement Plan, the Town of Vienna has committed to investing in infrastructure improvements to its water and sewer systems to ensure that reliable services continue to be delivered to customers.
