Home MenuTransportation Safety Commission
The Transportation Safety Commission (TSC) helps the Town work toward its goal of being an efficiently mobile, walkable and bikeable community. The TSC studies issues related to intersections, traffic signs, speed limits and other matters related to street safety and makes recommendations to the Town Council. Through its Pedestrian Advisory Committee and Bicycle Advisory Committee, the TSC promotes alternative transportation modes and a more walkable/bikeable Vienna.

July 30, 2024 - Dominion Energy is planning to upgrade the electric lines that run along the W&OD Trail through Vienna. At the upcoming TSC meeting, Dominion Energy will be outlining the detour details for the W&OD Trail closure later this year. Per Dominion: "To meet the region’s growing energy needs, we are preparing to replace the wires on, or reconductor, a four-mile transmission line between Clark and Idylwood substations in Fairfax County, Virginia. This 230 kilovolt line parallels the Washington & Old Dominion Trail. For the safety of trail users and our crews, we will temporarily reroute trail traffic between Mile Markers 8 to 12 during portions of this work. Phase I: Between July and November, trail users may experience intermittent traffic stops (up to 15 minutes) as we prepare for the reconductor. In November, the trail will be closed and detoured for one to two weeks, on weekdays only, during the reconductor." Please click here for more information: Clark - Idylwood | Dominion Energy or see this map for detour information: Dominion Detour Map
Residents are invited to attend the meeting and provide their input. If you are not able to attend the meeting, but have comments, please send them to tsc@viennava.gov no later than July 25th so they can be included in the meeting materials.
